Remora tastes like Cobia? Patch Reef Fishing catch n cook

My buddy Chris comes down to Key Largo for his birthday and we go patch reef fishing. Things get interesting in this catch n cook when Chris insists Remora tastes like Cobia.

The weather is rough but it's Chris's birthday so I have to put him on fish, no matter what! I run out with Chris and my new friend Craig from Key Largo. We run out of tavernier creek, fill up with fuel at the tavernier creek marina and then head out the the patch reefs.

Normally I would have ran out further to the reefs edge but the waves were so rough we said screw that! Weather can rough in South Florida during winter. We can still patch reef fish closer to the land. We anchor upcurrent from some rocky bottom in 13ft of water.

We chum heavy and the fish arrive! We put yellowtail snapper, grouper, grunts, mutton snapper and all sorts of species on the boat. Too bad it's not grouper season, they were all released. I would have loved to catch and cook these guys!

I see a remora eating the chum bag and Chris tells me that Remora tastes like Cobia. I said no way. I didn't believe him, but I caught the Remora anyways and threw it in the fish box upon his request.

We get back home and cook up the Cobia... I mean Remora before heading out to Big Chill for ladies night. What a strange catch n cook once again... Chris put some lemon pepper and old bay seasoning on the Remora. Seared it in a pan and you might be wondering what does Remora taste like? I have to admit it tasted pretty good. But mentally I had a hard time eating it. I don't think i'll eat it again for mental reasons, but I do say it was not bad at all.

We also cook some swordfish so that made me pretty happy.
