Yellowtail Snapper & Grouper Fishing - Key Largo Florida

On this trip, we start the day by catching some minnows in the backcountry of key largo. I will show you on a map exactly where all the spots are we are fishing at. The first spot is by some mangroves where we catch some snapper. After a couple hours of snapper fun, we run out the Tavernier cut and into the Atlantic.

We will spend today anchored on the patch reefs surrounding molasses reef, chumming and targeting yellowtail and grouper. Our anchored depth varied between 20-35 feet. I believe we moved locations 2-3 times but it was all in the same general vicinity. Sometimes we would drive a few hundred yards NE-E looking for slightly deeper water.

We hoped to use fresh cut ballyhoo, but it had been storming just prior to us reaching the patch reefs and it seems to have completely turned the ballyhoo off. Luckily, we came prepared with plenty of chum, squid and frozen pilchards. We also had lots of live glass minnows that we picked up earlier while snapper fishing.

I just bought some new video editing software so this was my first time using it. I tried a few cool things with it and have lots of ideas on how to make my future videos even better. I have been debating on making my videos shorter 5-6 vs. 15-20min and have only action scenes but for now, I want to keep my videos long. I think it's more helpful to my viewers to see that fishing isn't all action the whole time. However, we did run into some grouper and yellowtail snapper action and as always I can always manage to get at least 1 or 2 decent fish into the boat. (hope) hah

I also have another 2 great videos being released over the weekend before I leave for Spain on Monday. But nothing to worry about! I'll be getting some great footage of Spain and some vineyards next week for you guys. So kick back, fill a glass of wine and enjoy my videos. Thanks!
