The White House has finally invited Benjamin Netanyahu to visit the US after months of snubbing the Israeli prime minister. It’s the first White House invite to Israeli PM since Netanyahu re-entered office in December, easing months of tensions. Netanyahu’s office said President Biden extended the invitation during a “warm and long” phone call between the two leaders on July 17.
The Biden administration’s outreach to Netanyahu comes ahead of a visit to Washington by the Israeli president, Isaac Herzog. His visit includes meeting with Biden at the White House on July 18 and an address to the joint sitting of US Congress on July 19.
Meanwhile, A powerful US Democrat, Pramila Jayapal, apologised for calling Israel a “racist state” after facing backlash from her colleagues and party leadership. Jayapal, who chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus, made the comments on July 15 at the progressive conference Netroots Nation.
