Santa Monica tests AI cameras for parking tickets

The issue of cars unlawfully parked in bus lanes is a common problem faced by cities across the United States. However, a new breakthrough in AI camera technology is allowing buses to issue tickets in real-time.

The city of Santa Monica recently conducted a successful trial of this technology on their Big Blue Bus Line.

Despite providing 7.7 million trips last year, the efficiency of their services was compromised by vehicles improperly parked or stopped in dedicated bus lanes, KTLA 5 reported.

Robert McCall, in charge of Community Engagement for the City of Santa Monica, highlighted the challenge faced by cities in keeping unauthorized vehicles out of transit lanes.
