Gentle Highland cow gives birth to a beautiful bull calf. Guard dog helps clean up.

I'm not sure why she picked this spot. There are lots of nice grassy places to have calves, but Pepper always seems to know what she's doing,... and what do I know about having a calf anyway? Maple, one of our Livestock Guardian Dogs gets a healthy and tasty treat before the cow gets up. It's very common for them to help clean up after animals are born, but cows don't really like the dogs too close to their newborns and the dogs usually know to be calm and careful. Macey, and older sister of this new calf watches intently as things proceed. They'll be part of the same family group within the fold.
