I absolutely love Makita and this hedge trimmer is just another amazing addition to their catalogue. One of the best things about it is that it has three triggers for safety.
Personally, I found the third trigger to be a bit awkward, so I taped it down and now I can easily use the trimmer with two hands.
Even though its not designed for thicker branches, I found that with a little extra effort and some rocking motion, it can handle branches up to 10/15mm thick.
The trimmer is surprisingly quiet, which is a testament to Makitas build quality. If I could, I would give it 10 stars out of 5. I purchased this trimmer because my petrol hedge trimmer had stopped working after less than 2 years.
I needed a replacement quickly and came across this one while searching. I already own several Makita products, so I had batteries ready to go. I ordered the trimmer on a Monday and it arrived the next day.
I wasnt expecting much considering its price, but I needed something to get the job done quickly. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it performed.
It effortlessly cut through the hedges, even the thicker parts. I used a 4AH battery and it only used 1 bar of the battery. I would highly recommend this product based on my experience.
Im quite impressed with this trimmer. I bought it as an alternative to my 750cm petrol model and paired it with a 5ah Makita battery. I used it to trim 13 lonicera bushes that I sculpt into various shapes.
In some ways, its even better than the petrol model for this kind of work. Its great not to have to inhale petrol fumes and theres no need for ear defenders.
The blade length is perfect for agility while still being long enough to be useful. After working for a solid hour, the battery still had 3 out of 4 bars.
This trimmer is more suitable for soft trimming rather than heavy cutting into a shrub or hedge, but it works well for trimming privets and leylandii.
As for cons, the perspex shield takes up a bit of blade space, so I removed it. I also found the double-sided blade to be pointless and potentially dangerous.
The safety features can be a bit tiresome, as you have to hold the front guard, push a button with your other hand, and clutch the trigger all at once.
Its a bit over the top in my opinion.
