Hell's Gate is a section of the Fraser River that was deemed impassable by the early explorers. It's formidable current is breathtaking to see.
The gold rush prompted a need for railway tunnel construction to get through the narrow cut in the mountain. This construction caused a massive rock slide and wreaked havoc with migrating salmon.
A marvel of engineering created a solution for the salmon and saved the species and the fishing industry for aboriginal Canadians.
