Faroe Islands (Europea) - Eyewitness account of the grind at Toshavn - July 09, 2023

"Yesterday I witnessed the inhumane slaughter of 78 pilot whales on the killing beach of Tòrshavn. 5 of these whales were pregnant, bringing the total number of deaths to 83. 83 lives lost for meat so heavily contaminated with poisons and toxic chemicals it’s unsafe to eat is inconceivable to me.
Watching the boats drive the pod onto the beach whilst the locals plunged their hooks into the flesh of these creatures was the most barbaric thing I have ever witnessed. Watching one of the smallest calves as it thrashed around trying to escape before it was killed. Its screams are something that I will never be able to forget. Bloodied hands sliced uncarefully into its tiny fragile body until it finally lay still in the bloody water. It watched as its entire family was slaughtered one by one. It took 20 minutes for the pod to be massacred at the hands of the Faroese.
The Faroese argue this is done humanely but there was nothing humane about what I witnessed on that beach. Families stood watching this bloody mess, laughing and seemingly having fun in this horrific mass slaughter of families that are so similar to themselves. Whales are known to be smart and empathetic, I can’t say the same thing about the humans I saw on that beach."

The Faroese say the grind is swift and humane.
Long-finned pilot whale calves chased by loud boats for well over half an hour, forced onto the beach, watching mum and family die and then killed.
This level of stress and suffering is not swift and it's not humane. This is animal abuse.
Please speak up and share your thoughts in person and on social media. The only thing that needs to die is this tradition.
