Cyclists Get Chased By An Ostrich In Cape Town

When you go out with your friends to take a training bike ride on the road you expect to see vehicles passing you by, other people doing the same thing as you, maybe some birds or small animals running alongside the way, but the last thing you expect to see is an animal chasing you with the speed of light.

That’s what happened to a group of professional cyclists that were doing their standard training routine around Cape Town, South Africa, following the Cape Argus racing course with a detour to Cape of Good Hope. On March 5, 2016, they took the road through the national park which is quiet and a little deserted. Nothing unusual to be expected.

But then all of a sudden the last guy in the group heard a noise on his left and saw a big ostrich in the bush, most likely a female. In a second her friend jumped from the left and started chasing the cyclists! Apparently they were trying to hit on this lady, so her jealous partner started running after them. There is no way he will let them get away! What a disrespect for his princess.

The guy who was filming the video, Oleksiy Mishchenko, was following behind almost falling off his bike from laughter, still not believing how his friends got into trouble just for passing through what was this ostrich’s territory.

“It was a little scary at first, but then I thought I was gonna fell of my bike from laughter,” he wrote in the video’s description. “The ostrich didn’t have any problem to keep up at 50km/h (31 mph) and apparently they do 70km/h (43 mph) with no sweat.”

"The creature had no problem to keep up at 50km/h! Luckily it left us alone because we were about to run out of the road, at it is a dead end at the Cape of Good Hope." says Oleksiy.

So guys, when you go out training in the South Africa wild be more careful where you look at. This time you saved your bottoms, we’ll see what happens next time.

Ostrich are the largest and the heaviest of all of the birds. Even though they can fly, they are fast runners. Ostrich can grow up to 5 meters (16 feet) length. The ostrich uses its short wings for equalization, holding them outstretched when it runs. Solid legs can likewise be utilized for self-protection. An ostrich will kick with a power sufficiently relentless to slaughter a lion.

They live near zebras and antelopes, near grazing animals. They live in this kind of called community were the grazing animals stir up insects and rodents for the ostriches to eat and ostriches warn the grazers when there a predator near them like lions or tigers. It’s a win-win situation!

Also, they live in groups called herds and are approximately about 12 of them. They are amazing and graceful animals, but if you ever get near them, watch out!
