There are two constants in this fallen, sinful, and depraved world when it comes to leadership: you will be mistreated by leaders, and you will mistreat others. The question is, what do you do about it? When opportunities for revenge arise, it is tempting to seek personal justice and humiliate those who offended us. However wise, dependable, and godly leaders and their teams are not forged in the pits of revenge. They are forged through the fire of holiness and holy living. David had several opportunities for revenge on King Saul. This becomes a defining moment for his followers and a teaching moment for us on how to act when the temptation for revenge arises.

My goal is that their hearts, having been knit together in love, may be encouraged, and that they may have all the riches that assurance brings in their understanding of the knowledge of the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. - Colossians 2:2-3
