McCarthy faces shutdown threat from right flank

Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, finds himself in a challenging position as he strives to prevent a conservative uprising while ensuring the smooth operation of the government.

With the deadline for the start of the next fiscal year approaching at the end of September, Congress must pass funding legislation to avert a shutdown.

Negotiators in both the House and Senate are racing against the clock to finalize the 12 annual appropriation bills in a timely manner, The Hill reported.
