How to Export Discussion Forums on Moodle

There are three ways to export content of discussion forums on Moodle:
A. To export a single post or topic:
1. Go to the forum page where the post or topic you want to export is located.
2. Click on the Export to portfolio button at the bottom right of the post or topic.
3. In the Configure exported data page, select the HTML or Leap2A portfolio format from the Available export formats drop-down menu.
4. Click on the Next button.
5. In the Please confirm this export page, review your settings and click on the Continue button.
6. The contents of the post or topic will be downloaded to your computer in the format you selected.

B. To export a discussion thread:
1. Go to the forum page where the discussion thread you want to export is located.
2. Click on the Export whole discussion to portfolio button at the top of the discussion thread.
3. In the Exporting to portfolio page, select the HTML or Leap2A portfolio format from the Available export formats drop-down menu.
4. Click on the Next button.
5. In the Please confirm this export page, review your settings and click on the Continue button.
6. The contents of the discussion thread will be downloaded to your computer in the format you selected.

Note: You can only export a discussion thread if you are the forum owner or a moderator.

C. To export the whole discussion forum (post and replies)
1. Go to More under forum settings (in Moodle 4 and up) or to edit settings and Export in earlier Moodle versions
2. Decide on the duration (from - until dates)
3. Choose format (HTML table) and tick off Human readable dates.
4. Download to your computer.
