Yellen bows to China’s vice premier

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen faced criticism for bowing multiple times during her meeting with China’s vice premier, He Lifeng, with some critics perceiving it as a protocol error indicative of American weakness.

Yellen, previously serving as the chair of the Federal Reserve and now occupying a top financial position under President Joe Biden, concluded her first visit to China as treasury secretary on Sunday.

Shortly after bowing on at least three occasions, Yellen stumbled over He’s name, referring to him as ‘Vice Premier Hu.’

While both Washington and Beijing acknowledged that the meetings during her four-day trip were productive, aimed at improving the strained relationship between the two countries, no concrete agreements were reached, the Daily Mail reported.
