How to Upgrade a Cab Light to LED for a Dodge Ram

How to replace the cab light on your third generation Dodge Ram with an LED from Auxbeam. For this I’m using my 2006 1500 truck, however this tutorial may apply to other Dodge truck models as well. Upgrading your cab light to an LED will greatly improve your visibility at night when loading cargo, can assist when reversing, and if your cab light is activated when using your keyless entry. Tools/Supplies Needed:
-new replacement LED bulbs
-phillips screwdriver
-clean cloth

Procedure:
Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws on each side of the light.

This can be done when everything is in place, however for a better view, I will be doing this with the light assembly removed. This is also a great opportunity to clean around the light removing any debris which may cause sealing issues. To remove the light, there is a white electrical that needs to be disconnected.

Here’s the replacement bulb from Auxbeam for the factory 912 type bulb. This has a 400% improved brightness, 360° illumination output, 2600 lm, and a color temperature of 6500 kelvin. These have a built-in canbus no flash or no flicker so you won’t have any errors on your truck, is made from 6063 aluminum and will have a life span of 50,000 hours. They come in a package of two, no modifications are required for the installation.

Now you can see the rear side of the light assembly. There is a gasket all the way around, ensure this is clean before re-assembly as these can be known to cause leaks in your cab. The outer lights are for the cargo feature. The connectors simply twist into place, rotate counterclockwise, and then pull out.

To remove the bulbs, they simply unplug.

Then install the new LED bulbs.

These simply push back into place, making sure they are fully seated.

Twist the sockets back into place ensuring they are seated correctly.

There is a view once they are in place, they do sit slightly deeper than the factory bulbs, however, this won’t cause any issues.

Plug that white connector back into place and sure it is working correctly before installing the screws.

Here’s a quick comparison between the old and new bulbs. On the left is the LED and on the right is the factory incandescent. You can see we have a quicker start up time, the LED provides a pure white light and its brightness is also greatly increased as compared to the old incandescent version.

After that is installing the screws. Don’t over-tighten them as they are only going into plastic clips.
