Shooting Incident in Sacramento's Northgate Area Leaves One Dead

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Police Department (SacPD) and the Sacramento Fire Department (SFD) responded to a shooting incident that occurred in the 2600 block of American Ave., located in the Northgate area, on the evening of July 8, 2023.

According to a media release issued by the Sacramento Police Department, officers from the SacPD were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:41 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male adult victim who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Immediate life-saving measures were initiated by the officers, but unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Sacramento Fire Department personnel.

In response to the severity of the incident, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were deployed to assume control of the investigation. These personnel meticulously processed the crime scene, conducted a thorough canvassing of the area, and interviewed potential witnesses. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and no information regarding a suspect has been provided at this time.

The identity of the deceased will be disclosed by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office once the next of kin has been notified. The Sacramento Police Department urges any individuals who may have witnessed the incident or possess information pertaining to the ongoing investigation to contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471. It is worth noting that a reward of up to $1,000 may be available for eligible tips. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via the "P3 Tips" smartphone app, which can be downloaded free of charge.
