Rainbow flags flutter over a present day dystopia as banks, arms dealers and big brother unite in the fight for equality; allies and enemies are declared, statues topple and the proletariat riot in the streets whilst the ghost of Chairman Mao leads the revolutionary's long march through the institutions. Having watched from afar, a lone Briton sets out to seek the council of the ancients only to find the battle of the ages bearing down upon him. The question is, come the day of reckoning, for whom shall he stand?

THE MAKING OF EQUALITY

Survival Method:

This film was created over three months on fish and chips (food of dragons). These were ravenously devoured every three days whilst watching the ships come in. I generally fasted for one day out of every three, as is my natural working rhythm, and consumed a mature cheddar cheese sandwich on the other, with a banana.

I used 5 litres of water every 2-3 days which was boiled up from the beck nearby when too consumed in the project to carry water from the tap in town. I used 6 kilograms of propane and 1 litre of methylated spirits making 2-3 cups of coffee per day over the editing period. Having run out of these fuel sources two weeks ago I finished the project boiling water with a plumber's blowtorch I had stowed away for emergencies. A coat was worn for heating. I did my business in a tin bucket whilst whistling Mozart's Queen Of The Night aria and gazing across the vale yonder, as all Godly men do.

This production was powered by one 100 watt solar panel on my van roof, in summertime this generates more than enough electricity to edit on my phone all day (and night, as the case may be).

Technical Method:

This film was made using LumaFusion video editing software and ibisPaintX graphics suite (for preparing still images) on an iphone 13 pro max. The megalithic walk section was shot with the same phone last year using Filmic Pro which gives full manual control of the camera.

I use a lot of green-screen (chromakeying) techniques to layer video, combined with transparent PNG images animated in the editing software this provides limitless creative potential. The opening "card reader" sequence and the closing "watchman" scene were, for example, built solely with animated still images - excepting the watcher's blinking eyes, which were superimposed afterwards.
