Putin condemns Quran burning in Sweden: "Quran Burning Crime In Russia"

Last week, an Iraqi Christian immigrant burned Islam's holy book outside a Stockholm mosque with the approval of Swedish government during the major Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, an act that the man said displayed his feelings about the Quran. The burning triggered widespread condemnation in the Islamic world.

Later Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticised Western countries that allow the burning of the Quran on grounds of free speech, saying such acts are criminalised by Russia.

Putin made the remarks during a visit to meet Muslim representatives at the Juma Mosque in Dagestan's Derbent on Wednesday, where he was given a copy of the Quran as a gift. He expressed criticism towards Western nations that do not consider Quran burning a crime, emphasising that Russia penalises such actions.
