China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) is leading the development of brain 'neurostrike' weapons, according to a report by three open-source intelligence analysts. These weapons are designed to disrupt brain functions and influence leaders or entire populations, and could be used in handheld guns or larger weapons firing electromagnetic beams. The PLA views these weapons, which are aimed to impair thinking and cloud cognitive functions, as a key component of its asymmetric warfare strategy against the U.S. and its allies. The report suggests that the PLA might use this technology in a potential military assault on Taiwan, as part of its anti-access, area-denial military strategy. To counter this, the report urges the U.S. military to expose the threat of neurostrike weapons, increase sanctions against Chinese civilian and military programs linked to brain warfare, and use cyber capabilities to disrupt Chinese neurostrike programs. It also proposes targeting critical supply chains of institutions or companies engaged in brain warfare research.
