Southern California and its Los Angeles hub have historically had some of the most polluted air in the world. 25 years ago, this iconic city was hidden beneath the soot and smog filled skies. However, this heavily polluted region has transformed into an atmosphere of cleaner and healthier air. We explore this metamorphosis with President and CEO of Ship & Shore Environmental, Anoosheh Oskouian, who has dedicated her engineering career to eliminating toxins and pollutants from the atmosphere. We tour her environmental engineering company based in Long Beach, California, where she and her team design and construct cutting-edge pollution control systems for industries striving to be more environmentally responsible while remaining business friendly. Anoosheh has collaborated with leading local and federal agencies such as EPA and SCAQMD to implement robust air quality regulations and comprehensive air pollution mitigation operations. We explore their Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) technology which can be described as a colossal vacuum cleaner for pollution. Anoosheh’s captivating journey involves leaving Iran as a young girl, pursuing her education in the United States and eventually taking the helm of Ship & Shore Environmental, with the conviction that companies throughout the world can be highly profitable while also being good sustainability citizens. Reporter David Nazar has her story.
