Shear Brazing 4

I prep the last two pieces of the broken casting in the shear back stop project, I set them up and braze them together in two steps to keep the original alignment. Happy 4th of July everyone!
Cheers, Keith
Shear Brazing 3, I share the results of the brazing repair on the bearing bore end of the feed rod support project. I press out the graphite plug, check the fit and machine the rough outside surfaces to get ready for the second part of the brazing repair. I end with a share of the fun side1 I grew up water skiing as a fun activity in teens and twenties, then once when I was 50 and yesterday at the age near 65. I couldn’t get up on one ski, but went around the lake on two and had a blast….
“Shear Brazing 2”, is now my top Brazing skill video made by topping the last best brazing video series, “The Million Dollar Steady Rest”. I not only braze like a 3D printer I dance you on the tripod to watch a nonstop flow of brazing rod, creating a finish bore and the near factory cast shape of the missing section on the rod support end of my repair.
As soon as you know you have a cast iron project, you get into brazing mode. There are a lot of reasons the skill of brazing was one skill that was handed down to me by the first old timers I had a chance to work with in the shipyards. The strength of it, the likeness in bearing surface, the ease of machining and the non-effect it has in the base material, no crystalizing or work hardening, maybe more but these are the most important in my book.
I agree to help a customer repair an old shear of his that sustained an injury during moving.
