Thread: Danville 6/0, White & Black
Tail: Mallard Quill, Blue
Rib: Danville Mylar Tinsel, Gold, #14
Body: Danville 4-Strand Rayon Floss, Pale Blue
Hackle: Schlappen, White
Wing: Mallard Quill, Red

The Liberty is another wet fly from Ray Bergman's Trout (page 436, plate #5). I chose to do a tying video on the Liberty mostly to celebrate the 4th of July. It is a fun wet fly as wet flies go but a little more enjoyable in promoting Independence day. Often, flies are tied for reasons other then fishing and I think the Liberty is one of those flies that was tied to be more patriotic than to actually fish. Carrie Stevens also tied a number of patterns that were mostly to celebrate America rather than to be productive fish catchers. Anyway, the Liberty is a fun fly to tie if you like spending time at the vise. I am certain if you swing it you will probably catch a fish. As a good friend used to say, "that will catch a Bluegill". -- Enjoy
