➡️ What is an Exacerbation of COPD?
An acute exacerbation of COPD is often referred to as a flare-up. It's a worsening state of COPD that usually indicates that the patient is in need of increased medication dosages or other forms of care. That is because, during this stage, their respiratory symptoms will have become much more severe. An exacerbation can last from a few hours to a few days. And in severe cases, it can even last multiple weeks. With COPD, as the condition of the health of the lungs declines over time, these flare-ups may begin to occur more frequently.

➡️ COPD Exacerbation Signs and Symptoms:
▪ Shortness of breath
▪ Chest pain
▪ More wheezing than normal
▪ Coughing
▪ An increase in mucus production
▪ A change in the color of mucus
▪ More fatigue than normal
▪ Fluid accumulation and swelling in the ankles
▪ Hypoxemia (Low Oxygen Levels)

➡️ If you have been diagnosed or are experiencing symptoms, as always, please speak with your doctor.
