➡️ What is an Air Bronchogram?
An Air Bronchogram is a pattern on a chest radiograph that shows air-filled bronchi surrounded by areas of consolidation. This means that the bronchi will appear dark and visible due to the opacification of surrounding alveoli that appear white or gray. This is an abnormal process because, when alveoli are filled with air, they appear dark on the x-ray. However, if they're full of fluid, this is what causes the airways to become more visible amongst the gray or white appearance from consolidation. And this is referred to as the air bronchogram sign.

➡️ Causes of Air Bronchograms:
▪ Pulmonary consolidation
▪ Pneumonia
▪ Atelectasis
▪ Bronchiectasis
▪ Pulmonary edema
▪ Interstitial lung diseases
▪ Pulmonary hemorrhage
▪ Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Keep in mind that air bronchograms may be present in many other conditions as well. These are just a few of the most common examples.
