➡️ Sinusitis Definition
Sinusitis is a common condition that occurs when your sinuses are swollen and inflamed. This interferes with the normal drainage of mucus and causes it to accumulate in the nasal cavity which leads to the uncomfortable feeling of a stuffy nose. It also often causes facial pain and the area around your eyes and nose may feel swollen or tender.

➡️ Sinusitis Signs and Symptoms:
- Nasal congestion
- Facial pressure
- Fever
- Headaches
- Cough
- Sore Throat
- Post-nasal drip
- Poor sense of taste or smell

➡️ Causes of Sinusitis:
- Viral infection
- Bacterial infection
- Allergies
- Air pollution
- Nasal polyps
- Deviated nasal septum

Keep in mind that most cases of sinusitis are caused by a viral infection. This condition is considered to be acute sinusitis if the infection lasts for less than 4 weeks. If it occurs for three months or longer, then it can be referred to as chronic sinusitis.

➡️ Sinusitis Treatment
The treatment for sinusitis depends on the signs and symptoms that a patient may be experiencing. Again, these can vary in severity from person to person. If you or a family member are suspected of having this condition, as always, it's best to speak to your doctor for medical advice because they will know more about your individual condition. However, in general, time, rest, and drinking plenty of water can be effective methods of alleviating the symptoms of this condition. Hydration helps thin out mucus so that it is easier to cough up or blow out through the nose. Steam inhalation via a humidifier or hot shower can be effective to relieve symptoms as well. Over-the-counter medications such as nasal sprays or antihistamines may be considered. However, again, it's best to speak with a physician for their proper recommendations. Keep in mind that antibiotics are typically not recommended in most cases.
