Location Sound Recording with Scott Vanderbilt (audio adjusted)

** NOTE - It was my fault that Scott's audio signal was so much softer than mine. I'm getting the hang of Google Hangouts on air. In this version, the audio has been processed to level the audio track, hopefully making it much more tolerable than the original.

Technicalities aside, Scott is a location sound recordist based in the Los Angeles area where he works primarily on short films. Here he generously took time to talk with us about gear, about the process of recording location sound, and the most important techniques for improving your sound recordings. He also shares his perspective on the use of lavalier microphones and why he uses both a boom and lavaliers in most shoots with the boom being the primary microphone.
