The 1968 hit song MacArthur Park written by Jimmy Webb and performed by English actor Richard Harris has been mocked in many quarters –including by comedy writer Dave Berry who called it "the worst song ever recorded." I don't think Dave ever heard Waylon's version!

Waylon first released a country cover of the song in 1969 for which he won a Grammy. This "Revisited" version was included in his 1976 album "Are you ready for the Country?"

Jimmy Webb said that every thing mentioned in the song including the "cake left out in the rain" actually happened. The song was inspired by the break-up of a relationship with a lady who worked near MacArthur Park in Los Angeles. They would meet there on her lunch break.

Webb also said that the end of that same relationship inspired him to write the Glen Campbell #1 hit, "By the time I get to Phoenix."

Waylon and his wife singer Jessi Colter created a music dynasty. Their son Shooter Jennings has a successful music career in his own right. Jessi's daughter from her first marriage to guitarist Duane Eddy is the mother of singer Struggle Jennings. Struggle's daughter "Brianna Harness is also a successful country singer. Brianna recently started dating Country Rap Superstar Ryan Upchurch.
