The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations has put forward a proposal to completely cut government funding for the World Health Organization (WHO) in its budget proposal for fiscal year 2024.

The proposed cuts are part of an effort to stop funding sources of misleading medical information promulgated by various governmental bodies during the COVID period, whose “experts” were previously deemed “authoritative”.

Additionally, the bill includes provisions that prohibit funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the EcoHealth Alliance, and all gain-of-function research in general.

Shockingly, the bill also seeks to terminate U.S. government involvement with the World Economic Forum (WEF) and even implements a ban on U.S. government "misinformation" and "disinformation" programs.

While the proposed bill has passed the subcommittee markup stage, it still has several steps to go through in the congressional appropriations process. It will undergo full committee markup, where amendments may be made, before being considered by the House and Senate. Any differences between the versions passed by the House and Senate will need to be resolved, and the bill may also be added as a rider to other legislation which could even immunize it from a presidential veto.

Opposition to the WHO has been mounting among lawmakers in Congress, leading to the introduction of several bills that call for the cessation of funding or withdrawal from the organization. One of the bills with significant support is H.R.79, proposed by Rep. Andy Biggs, which currently has 49 co-sponsors. Some members of Congress argue that the WHO poses a threat to U.S. sovereignty and advocate for defunding them and exiting the organization.
