Why do evil people shoot up gay night clubs, or schools? Should the killers be charged with "hate crimes"?
My heart grieves with the families of the five precious souls murdered at "Club Q" in Colorado, back in November 2022. And I pray that Anderson Lee Aldrich would be given the grace of repentance.
Christ calls us to love everyone, even our enemies; to turn the other cheek when struck. To bless those who curse us. Imagine being a mother or father of one of those murdered at "Club Q", and Christ asking you to love & forgive the one who savagely murdered your son. How unthinkable! But this type of love & forgiveness is truly possible by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Today, many Christians around the world commemorate Saints Peter & Paul; let us not forget St. Paul's former life: "“Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any that belonged to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.”
After Saul's (later Paul) miraculous conversion, he was beaten unmercifully in city after city for his "intolerant message" that proclaimed Jesus Christ was the only way to God. He boasted (a HOLY boasting!):
"Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more, in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often..."
Even murderers can be forgiven by our all-merciful God & used to change the world!
This murderer turned Saint, Paul, would not be very popular today, just like he wasn't very popular in his own day. He once wrote in one of his letters:
"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."
If you can't find yourself on that list, you're probably not trying...
