Missing Black Girls
Black girls are facing a disturbing reality as they continue to go missing at alarming rates. It's disheartening to see that many of them don't feel safe within their own communities.
According to Stubblefield, there is a lack of media coverage when it comes to missing Black girls. Their stories often go unnoticed, making it difficult for the public to even know that they have gone missing.
At Skyline High School in Oakland, a group of teenagers named Timia Brown, Davina Stubblefield, and Lon'ja Mustafa come together in the Black Girls Group. This club aims to foster creativity and authenticity among its members.
One recurring topic of discussion in the group is the feeling of insecurity that they experience as Black girls. Mustafa expresses her genuine fear, stating, "I do not feel safe out here." These young girls are apprehensive about being alone in their neighborhoods and are determined to make a powerful statement: Black girls matter and they deserve to feel safe and protected, not only in Oakland but throughout the entire country.
