The Young Guard was the most famous underground organization of the "Great Patriotic War"
The group operated in Krasnodon (Donbass) and included 71 people. The average age of the participants was 16-18 years, and the youngest was only 14.
I swear to avenge mercilessly the cities and villages that were burned down, our people’s blood — an oath pronounced by its members upon joining the underwound organisation.
The #YoungGuard freed Soviet prisoners of war, and saved thousands from being taken away to Nazi Germany. During one such operation they destroyed the “black exchange,” an occupation office that stored documents listing over 2,000 citizens of Krasnodon who were intended for deportation to Germany.
After the Germans exposed the Young Guard and arrested all its members, the captives refused to cooperate with the enemy despite inhuman torture methods used by the Nazis. They perished without giving out any information on the underground or other local partisan units.
There were a great many such examples of courage and unbending will of Soviet citizens during the war. Thanks in part to their efforts, the enemy was expelled from our Motherland, and soon after defeated in its lair.
