Texas mall shooting bodycam footage released

Texas police have released bodycam footage of a mass shooting at the Allen Premium Outlets Mall. The May 6 attack saw a gunman, Mauricio Garcia, kill eight people, including three children, before being fatally shot himself by law enforcement. The video shows an unnamed officer, who was in the area on an unrelated call, responding to the scene, heroically charging into the mall as he ushers civilians to safety. Five minutes later, Garcia was dead.

The officer's actions were commended by the police association, with Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey stating: ‘the officer recognized the danger, ran toward the gunfire and neutralized the threat – and for his actions, the Allen community is forever grateful.’ Plans for a permanent memorial to the shooting are in place at the now reopened mall.
