The expression psychological warfare (English: psychological warfare (PSYWAR)) [1] denotes in the military and in warfare all methods and measures to influence the behavior and attitudes of opposing armed forces and civilian population in the context of or in the run-up to military operations . These conceptual differences and hierarchical assignments correspond to decision-making and command paths. The Bundeswehr has developed Operative Information (OPINFO) as a specific form or doctrine of psychological warfare , which in a way summarizes NATO terminology.
A method of psychological warfare counts as anything that disturbs, reduces or destroys the morale of opposing forces or distorts their perception. The MfS applied the decomposition before, during, after or instead of imprisoning the "target person". With the knowledge gained through spying, the MfS created socio- and psychograms and used them for personality-oriented forms of decomposition.
