DOJ cracks down on nationwide healthcare scams totaling over $2.5 billion

The Department of Justice issued federal and state criminal charges against 78 defendants for their roles in defrauding Medicare and Medicaid. The Justice Department announced 24 doctors, nurses, and medical professionals across 16 states were among those charged Wednesday. Federal officials say the schemes raked in $2.5 billion and targeted the elderly, pregnant women, opioid addicts, and HIV patients.
