Adding Paper Strips And Paste to Paper Mache

In this video I show you how to apply paper strips and paste to your paper mache sculpture (or mask, in this case) in a way that will make it as smooth as possible. That way, it will be almost ready to paint as soon as it's dry.

I previously made a video showing you how to make your paper mache sculpture smoother, in case your paper mache doesn't come out exactly the way you want it to. Then I made another one, that's actually better - You can find that video here: https://youtu.be/Ad2iLa201kA
Although that video shows a sculpture made with paper mache clay, the method works just as well for making paper strips and paste smooth without sanding.

To make your paper mache go on as nicely as possible, follow these main tips:

Use newspaper, because it's a very soft paper that molds itself to the underlying form when it's wet.

Tear the paper instead of cutting it.

If a piece doesn't lay flat, tear it in the right spots so it doesn't wrinkle.

Use small pieces over complex shapes.

And use a knife or your fingers to push the paper onto the form to remove all air bubbles and push the extra paste out from under the paper.
