You watch the second video in this series, adding the paper mache clay, here: https://youtu.be/idsWtFuFr8g

And the third video, showing how the blue chalk paint and lotus blossoms were added, is here: https://youtu.be/JGVy4iHMYiY

There are two more videos coming - one that shows how a paper-thin layer of paper mache clay is put on over the armature, and another one that shows how I painted the blue hippo and added the lotus flower design.

When I made my little blue Egyptian hippo I used the basic techniques found in my book Make Animal Sculptures with Paper Mache Clay, with a few minor variations. If you'd like to see more projects using armatures like the one I'm making for William, go to http://amzn.to/1nMUO3a

In this video I show you how I created the pattern on cardboard, then filled out the forms with crumpled foil. You could also use crumpled newspaper and masking tape, like I used in my book. (The tape I bought last week didn't stick at all, and that's why I used foil and hot glue instead.)

The one thing you really need to do before even starting your own Egyptian hippo is to go find as many images of William as you can find. William has fairly simple shapes, thanks to the original artist who created him over 3,500 years ago. If you look at the photos while adding your crumpled foil (or paper if you're sticking with tradition), instead of just relying on my video, your final sculpture will come out better. You always want to use as many source photos as you can find.
