Sec. Buttigieg warns of flight delays ahead of 5G upgrade deadline

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg issued a warning Friday alerting air travelers to anticipate flight disruptions this summer ahead of airlines’ July 1 deadline to upgrade their 5G equipment. Sec. Buttigieg said airplanes that haven’t been retrofitted with the updated technology by then will not be cleared to land in weather with low visibility. U.S. wireless companies are set to boost their 5G service to higher power levels on July 1.
