YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS AMAZING CUSTOM SUPER MARIO BROS WOODWORK!

For the last five or six years I have visited the Bloomington normal GameCon, first as a patron in the last few years as a vendor. In 2023, we had our biggest year at the show, meeting some amazing people, displaying some super fun 3D-printed items, and making a lot of new friends. We actually met up with one of our old friends from the very first year that we were down at the Missouri game con, and he was doing some really creative signage with wood burning. Let's take a look at what we got because you won't believe this amazing custom Super Mario Bros woodwork we came home with!

So I met this particular vendor back at the MoGameCon in 2018, and he was selling reproductions of Splatterhouse for the NES. This was a game that was never released on the NES, so I was definitely intrigued. I picked one up and I still have it sealed in the game room. Nonetheless, every time I see him at a show I always make sure that I go and say hi to him and we connect even for just a few minutes because he is just a really cool dude.

At the 2023 Illinois Game Con, he had some of his typical retro gaming stuff for sale but he also had a number of really beautiful wood-burned and wood-carved signs. They had a three-dimensional sort of shadow box look to them and they looked absolutely phenomenal. I looked at them several times when I took a break from my booth, and I really liked them. He came by our booth as we were shutting down and took a liking to some of our light boxes. We started discussing things and I asked him if he would be interested in a trade, one of his signs for one of my signs. And the deal was done.

The one I decided to go with was the Super Mario Bros one that he had on the booth, and I absolutely love the caricatures he went with. I love the detail of both Mario and Luigi and the Super Mario Brothers logo at the top of the box. Overall it was just a really neat piece, and I am looking forward to displaying it now in our game room.

When I got home and showed my youngest daughter, she absolutely flipped as she is completely enthralled with the Super Mario Bros movie right now. She is super excited for us to mount this downstairs in her part of our basement in her playroom, and to be honest with you, that may be where I put it.
