In a televised address, the Russian president said the attempted rebellion amounted to betrayal of Russia and its people. Putin stressed that the country's law enforcement officers will take decisive action to restore order.

He noted that Russia is engaged in a historic struggle to secure its future while "repelling the aggression of neo-Nazis and their masters".

“We are fighting for the life and safety of our people, for our sovereignty and independence. For the right to be and remain Russia,” said Putin, urging Russians to put aside any divisions that could be exploited by foreign adversaries.
