The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) is a state organisation in Kenya that oversees museums, historic sites, and monuments. It conducts heritage research and has competence in palaeontology, archaeology, ethnography, and biodiversity study and protection. Its headquarters and the National Museum (Nairobi National Museum) are on Museum Hill in Nairobi, near the Uhuru Highway between the Central Business District and Westlands. The East Africa Natural History Society (E.A.N.H.S.) formed the National Museum of Kenya in 1910; the society's major purpose has always been to perform a continuous critical scientific assessment of the natural features of the East African ecosystem. The museum contains collections as well as temporary and permanent exhibits. Today, the National Museum of Kenya oversees over 22 regional museums and other sites.
