In the unprecedented times we live in, many people are going through and experiencing loss. Gene grew up in Oceana County, Michigan, near the Silver Lake sand dunes, and made the Grand Rapids area his home after marrying Kathie in 1976. Gene and Kathie have three daughters: Kristen, Becky, and Lauren. They have eight grandchildren ranging in age from 24 to 13. The four youngest grandchildren are 13 years old, with three of them being triplets and their cousin who was born two weeks later.

Gene has three loves in his life: God, family, and country.

Gene, Kathie, and their daughters served as missionaries in Brazil for eight years. After returning to the United States, Gene became the Pastor of Christian Education at what is now Rush Creek Bible Church in Byron Center. After graduating from Liberty University in 2009 with a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling, Gene’s role changed to that of Pastor of Care and Counseling. He retired from that position in 2019. Gene is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan. Gene also works for MKD Funeral Home as the facilitator for their monthly grief support group.
