Gates, aka ‘The Buck,’ secured two knockdowns in the contest, and when asked about the openings that allowed him to land his meaningful strikes, Gates said,

“When I hit him, the very first shot with that jab, I split him open. He was leaking blood out of his eye. So I was like, I got to attack that. Then he tried putting me up on the ropes. So I hit him in the body a few times and hit him with an uppercut. When he came back up, his nose was a mess, like, I hurt him there.”

“That’s when he took that first knock down. Then they got the ten count - come right back into it. A little flurry got him up against the ropes. Again, did the same thing, Uppercut. I heard him say, 'Ow, hard hook,' and he was down again.”

The jab was the main plan coming in against Greenwood, but the uppercut clearly paid dividends for Gates.

This was the fourth bare knuckle bout for Gates. He had his debut effort versus the newly minted featherweight champ, Kai Stewart, in what was also a BKFC debut for ‘Hefty Bag’ Stewart. Stewart emerged with 145 pound gold. Now, Gates secured his first bare knuckle win at BKFC Great Falls.

Gates has been involved in combat sports in Montana for around fifteen years, and the state came out to support him in a big way once again.

As far as what’s next, he told the 145 pounders to watch out. But Gates also teased a possible move down to 135 pounds. He is also looking at competing again in four to six weeks, ideally. So we could be seeing ‘The Buck’ sooner, rather than later.
