Rage of Demons 2: Succubus Cave to Beholder Gems

We continue our run of Rage of Demons. We make some progress -- namely through the Succubus Caves/Grymsong Mines and then to the main story. Grymsong Mines shows us that Rage of Demons remains more difficult than Sword Coast Legends was, while the main story dungeons are difficult in a different way. Namely, after you recruit Drizzt as an NPC companion, you get the wonderful joy of having to use Hide to steal some eyes from beholder statues. Combined with needing a super high Spot Hidden/Search check. Trying to sub Cyanelle in for a rogue is clearly a problem. After Sword Coast Legends basically didn't care about your rogue skills, this was a bit of a harsh opening. Black Puddings are still a pain to fight, but once I swapped Cyanelle away from slashing weapons, things went easier.

The plot so far is fairly basic. A bunch of jerks in a Duregar outpost are asking us for favors, and now we have to go find a missing person. It turns out, they've been cornered by undead illithids. We learn that these illithids are working in the service of an elder brain that died a long time ago, and so we must find Drizzt, the only person to kill an elder brain, to stop it. Conveniently, Drizzt is hunting a beholder nearby. We go and find him, and now we have a friend. Good times.
