We have to “embrace with joy” the fact that the gay community puts itself at risk???

Last week, I made a reel responding to the topless trans debacle at the White House. I made the claim that the LGBT community is held to a different standard than the rest of society—a lower standard. I stand by that. This clip from the “MPox” Response Deputy Coordinator suggests the same. Why didn’t I—as a young healthy person—get a free pass during covid, to engage in “my idea” of a Friday night? To go back to work? To visit my dying grandmother (who ultimately died alone)? Does no one see the hypocrisy in this?

I wonder: does this man believe that “risky” behavior is inherent in the gay community? Does the medical community think the gay community is more inclined toward risk? If they don’t think that, then why do they need to go the extra mile for them? Why can’t they be honest? Have we learned nothing from the mistakes of the response to the AIDS epidemic—and more recently, the response to COVID?

Don’t exaggerate risk level but also don’t sugarcoat it. Both are dangerous and deadly. The rest of us are a little tired of playing public health official and MD better than the highly-paid public health officials and MDs. 😮‍💨
