Hey everyone and welcome back to another Lesney Matchbox Restoration! Today we're tackling a Lensey Matchbox 34C Volkswagen Type 2 Camper Bus / Van.

We started off with a nice complete example which had previously been customized. One door was broken and the window openings looked to have been damaged but it wasn't bad. From the looks the paint work, someone took a lot of time and effort to mask off the two tone body. I would have actually kept this as is had the paint not been badly chipped! The wheel and body rivets had already been ground off making this a fairly easy disassembly. The base plate had been glued to the body at the rivet posts requiring a little cleaning up.

Once disassembled, the paint was stripped using boiling water and caustic soda. The body was then primed in Tamiya fine gray spray primer and finished with Tamiya chrome silver paint. I thinned this with Tamiya thinner and shot it through my master airbrush. The base was also primed and coated in Tamiya gloss black.

To polish the windows, I first wet sanded using 600 grit followed by 1200 grit. I then polished the plastic with dremel polishing compound and finished it with Mothers mag polish.

Overall I'm very happy with the results! While the doors still could use a little work I managed to bring this worn out custom back to its original appearance.
