I recently purchased the ALPS Mountaineering Tent Footprint in the six-person size to use with my Alps Camp Creek 6 tent, and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with its performance.
During a recent camping trip, my tent had to withstand high winds and a torrential downpour that lasted a couple of hours. Despite all of this, the tent remained in place and did not move at all.
The only area where we had an air mattress up right against the tent got wet, but we simply moved the mattress and had no further problems. One of the reasons why this product is great is because it is super easy to set up.
All you need to do is stake it down with the four extra pegs that come with it, and youre good to go. The only thing that would make it even better would be if it had grommets for the poles so that you could set up the fly only over it.
However, I understand that newer Alps tents may have that feature.
The size of the six-person floor saver is perfect, as it is slightly smaller than the bottom of the tent, providing protection without sticking out and potentially serving as a way for water to pool under the tent floor.
I also appreciate the corner straps on the footprint, which have multiple connection points, and the closest of which is an exact fit to line up with the tents corner stake-down strap.
When stuffed into the bag, it is still compact enough to fit into the tent bag. While I do think that $50 is a bit expensive for a tent footprint, I am hopeful that it will prolong the life of my tent floor enough to justify the cost.
Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and am glad that I did my research before buying. Other tents in the campground did not fare as well, and I am grateful that I invested in a high-quality product that can withstand tough conditions.
