Opening Prayer

James 1:12-18- "Temptations"

See v. 12- Here is James is telling us to rejoice even in our temptations. They reveal whether or not we are prepared for heaven- (1 Corinthians 9:25): "And everyone who competes for the prize [a]is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

We see in v. 13- look to vv. 1-11, there James discuses "outward trials"- and here in v. 13- James turns his attention to "inward trials", which these deceive us and leads us all to sin. God tries meaning, He tests us, but He does not tempt us.

See v. 14-15- origin of sin is our own sinful passions, and in return the devil uses these passions. According to scripture temptation begins with "DESIRES" or lusts, then progresses to being "CONCEIVED", a fixation on or delight in sinful desires, and ends as "BIRTH TO SIN", a consent to or acting out in sinful desires. We all fall into temptation because the flesh is weak and we allow ourselves to give into this weakness. Neither God nor circumstances force us to yield.

See v. 17: "AS FATHER OF LIGHTS"- God is King 👑 of the Universe and reigns over all visible and invisible creation. He is the Creator of all and also the GIVER OF ALL SPIRITUAL GIFTS.

see v. 18: God provides our salvation "OF HIS OWN FREE WILL", not of necessity. "BROUGHT US FORTH": He "begot" us, making a reference to baptism, by which all become children of God by grace. "THE WORD OF TRUTH" is the Gospel, the unchanging doctrine of faith. We are the "FURSTFRUITS OF HIS CREATURES": In salvation we benefit not by taking on the essence or nature of God, but instead we put on a new humanity consecrated to God.
