McLeod Ganj, also known as Upper Dharamsala, is a small town located in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is situated in the Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas and is approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) north of the city of Dharamshala.

McLeod Ganj gained international fame as the residence of the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, who established the Tibetan government-in-exile there after fleeing Tibet in 1959. The town has since become a prominent center for Tibetan culture, Buddhism, and the Tibetan refugee community. It is often referred to as "Little Lhasa" due to its Tibetan atmosphere and the presence of numerous Tibetan institutions and monasteries.

Visitors to McLeod Ganj can explore several monasteries, including the prominent Namgyal Monastery, which serves as the Dalai Lama's residence
