Iraq Abandons U.S. Dollar: De-Dollarization Wave Gathers Steam in West Asia

In a bold move, Iraq has prohibited transactions in U.S. dollars. This surprise announcement last week was an effort to stabilize the Iraqi Dinar. But increasingly, the US dollar’s dominance is being challenged in West Asia.

Despite Pakistan's call to boycott the Kashmir G20 meeting, the 3-day event welcomed more than 60 foreign delegates. Security forces also foiled a 26/11-style attack on Gulmarg.

At the Forum of India Pacific Island Cooperation, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea James Marape made an urgent call. Addressing India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he sought India's advocacy at global platforms like the G7 and G20. Marape said Pacific nations are caught in the crossfire of a 'global powerplay' and wish to unite behind India.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to do "everything possible" to end the Russia Ukraine war. He said this in his first in-person talks with Ukraine's Zelensky since the war broke out.
