Sand Leveling FAQs in Description

Why? We use sand to level out the low spots. This makes the lawn nice and smooth so a mower wont dip down and scalp the grass.
Why sand? Dirt is hard to spread perfectly smooth and dirt will settle more. Dirt can also introduce new weed seeds ti your lawn.
What kind of sand? Masonry sand because it has no rocks in it.
Can i do this with any grass type? Yes, BUT, it is really hard to rake sand nice and smooth in tall grass. The taller, the harder. People have done it with fescue for exsmple but they usually will do it in the fall, cut the grass down to an inch and overseed on top of the sand to fill things back in. With tall grass it might be easier to just slowly fill dips over time so you dont smother the grass.
What is the best time to do it? Whenever your grass is growing most vigorously and has the most time to recover. So, warm season grass - summer. Cool season grass, spring or fall.
What is that rake? This video shows the @land.zie 42” leveling rake and “LawnTools10” will save you some money on their lawn tool lineup 👍🏼
We have done quite a few full YouTube videos about sand leveling in the past and have just started a string of them this year as well so head of there if you want longer videos showing more about the process.
