"Make the World Go Away," written by Hank Cochran, was first recorded by Ray Price in 1963, whose version rose to no. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart (Whitburn, 1994); however, it was both Timi Yuro and then Eddy Arnold who charted highly on the Billboard Hot 100 charts with Yuro having a no. 24 hit in 1963 and then Arnold's version topping off at no. 6 on the Hot 100 chart and no. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart in 1965 (Whitburn, 1994, 2013). Other versions that charted include: Donny & Marie Osmond (1975, no. 44 on the Hot 100 chart, no. 71 on the Hot Country Songs chart) and Charly McClain (1977, no. 73 on the Hot Country Songs chart) (Whitburn, 1994, 2013). Hank Cochran is also known as the writer of Patsy Cline's recordings of "She's Got You" and "I Fall To Pieces" (co-written with Harlan Howard) (Whitburn 2013).

Lyrics:

Make the world go away
And get it off my shoulders
Say the things you used to say
And make the world go away

Do you remember when you loved me
Before the world took me astray
If you do, then forgive me
And make the world go away

Make the world go away
And get it off my shoulders
Say the things you used to say
And make the world go away

I'm sorry if I hurt you
I'll make it up day by day
Just say you love me like you used to
And make the world go away

Make the world go away
And get it off my shoulders
Say the things you used to say
And make the world go away

Say the things you used to say
And make the world go away
"I Can See For Miles," written by Pete Townshend, was The Who's only top 10 hit in the US landing at the no. 9 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1967 (Whitburn, 2013). In his book "Who Am I," (2012) Townshend wrote "On one of The Who's many trips away I began imagining that my fabulous new girlfriend Karen was deceiving me. . . It was this kind of paranoid, unhinged thinking that spurred me to write "I Can See for Miles" (p. 93). In one of the band's first performance of the song, they were booked on to "The Smothers Brothers' Comedy Hour." Their drummer, Keith Moon, decided to plant an "oversized theatrical charge of gun power, blowing up the entire band. . . My hair caught fire and my hearing was never the same. Keith was such a twat sometimes" (Townshend, 2012, p. 129).

Lyrics:

I know you've deceived me, now here's a surprise
I know that you have 'cause there's magic in my eyes
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

If you think that I don't know about the little tricks you've played
And never see you when deliberately you put things in my way
Well, here's a poke at you
You're gonna choke on it too
You're gonna lose that smile
Because all the while

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

You took advantage of my trust in you when I was so far away
I saw you holding lots of other guys and now you've got the nerve to say
That you still want me
Well that's as may be
But you gotta stand trial
Because all the while

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

I know you've deceived me, now here's a surprise
I know that you have 'cause there's magic in my eyes
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

The Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal are mine to see on clear days
You thought that I would need a crystal ball to see right through the haze
Well here's a poke at you
You're gonna choke on it too
You're gonna lose that smile
Because all the while

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
